How do I join [dmi]?

Any 8th-12th grade student can sign up online at coralhillbaptist.com/events. This will take place during the month of July. After that, leadership will begin pairing dmi students with a dmi adult mentor. The one-year dmi commitment will begin at the end of August.

What is the goal?

To provide a structure that is intended to help students at Coral Hill grow in their personal discipleship and in disciple-making.  Students will have opportunities to develop and be equipped in areas such as personal Bible study, sharing the Gospel, investing in the discipleship process of others, and functioning as a faithful member of the Lord’s church at Coral Hill.  Ultimately, our prayer is that the Lord will use the dmi structure within the context of the local church to help students grow in Christ-likeness and to take concrete steps towards becoming life-long disciple-makers.

Are there different levels of the dmi?

Yes.

Apprentice Level

All 8th grade students, as well as any high school student who is a first year applicant, will participate at the apprentice level for the duration of their commitment in that given year.  Apprentice Level students will be expected to fulfill the first five expectations of the dmi commitment (listed in the section below).

*The sixth expectation of the dmi commitment, labeled “Commit to Disciple Making”, will not be required at the Apprentice Level. This is simply because we want to be able to model this for students before asking them to do it.

Investor Level

All high school students who have also completed at least one year at the Apprentice Level will participate at the investor level for the duration of their commitment in that given year. Investor Level students will be expected to fulfill all six expectations of the dmi commitment (listed in the section below).

Leadership Team

All 10th - 12th grade Investor Level students will by default be assigned to the Student Leadership Team. This team will help assist with ministry needs throughout the year.

What are the expectations for a [dmi] student?

[dmi] student expectations are broken down into 5-6 main areas:

  1. Commit to personally reading God’s Word using a reading plan.

  2. Commit to meeting with the dmi student group as a whole (once a month).

  3. Commit to meeting with your dmi mentor (once a month).

  4. Commit to growing in the areas of prayer and personally sharing the Gospel.

  5. Commit to being a faithful member of the local church through attending and serving.

  6. Commit to disciple-making (intentionally investing in the discipleship process of at least one other person).

Below you will find more details that outlines what each commitment involves…

  1. Commit to personally reading God’s Word using a reading plan.

    1. [dmi] students will exercise their commitment to God’s Word by completing a reading plan option for their own personal daily devotion time throughout the year-long [dmi] commitment.  Example reading plan options include:  1) All of the Old Testament; 2) All of the New Testament; 3) The entire Bible; or 4) A customized reading plan agreed upon by the dmi student and their mentor.

  2. Commit to meeting with the dmi student group as a whole (once a month).

    1. [dmi] students will meet together once a month as a group with one of the CHBC Pastors.  This will be an opportunity to be challenged and encouraged by other students who have made the dmi commitment.  Pastoral investment in this group will be leadership development in nature and will include supplemental reading assignments.

  3. Commit to meeting with your dmi mentor (once a month).

    1. [dmi] students will meet together with their dmi adult at least once a month.  The role of the dmi adult is to support and encourage the dmi student in their commitments.

  4. Commit to growing in the areas of praying and sharing the Gospel.

    1. [dmi] students will exercise their commitment to sharing the Gospel by developing a running list of at least two lost people to intentionally pray for and to seek to share the Gospel with. People on this list could include friends, family, neighbor, etc.

  5. Commit to being a faithful member of the local church through attending and serving.

    1. [dmi] students will exercise their commitment to the local church by faithfully participating in weekly Sunday morning worship.

    2. [dmi] students will exercise their commitment to the local church by faithfully participating in their small group.

    3. [dmi] students will exercise their commitment to the local church by faithfully participating in Wed Night Student Worship.

    4. [dmi] students will exercise their commitment to the local church by serving in an area at CHBC outside of the Student Ministry.

  6. Commit to Disciple Making. (Investor Level Only)

    1. [dmi] students will exercise their commitment to disciple-making by using Coral Hill’s “Disciple Making” booklet to partner with at least 1 non [dmi] student for the purpose of studying through book(s) of the Bible together.

What are the expectations for a [dmi] adult mentor?

[dmi] adult mentor expectations are as follows:

  1. Meet in-person with your [dmi] student at least 1x a month for the purpose of relationship building as well as supporting and encouraging your dmi student in their dmi commitments.

  2. Read and discuss a supplemental book approve by the Pastoral Team.

  3. Consistently pray for your [dmi] student and look for opportunities to include them in your family’s life/activities on occasion. *We want to model life on life discipleship, not just one on one Bible study.

  4. Maintain an open line of communication with your [dmi] student’s parent/guardian.  This is vital, in part because CHBC recognizes parents as the primary disciplers of their children.  CHBC postures itself as a resource for parents and a partner with them in their God-given responsibility to disciple their children.

Note: As per our church’s Child Protection Policy (CPP),  all adults are expected to refrain from being alone in a private setting with any minor regardless of gender. This includes not giving students rides when there is no one else in the car. The intent of this is to protect both the adult and the student.  CHBC’s CPP does not prevent a DMI Adult from having one on one conversations with students as long as it’s in a setting that is visible to others.  That is to say a DMI Adult can meet with a student one on one at a coffee shop, public park, at the church before Wednesday night, etc.  The only exception to the ‘ride’ policy is in the case of an emergency, or if in a given situation, the safety of the child requires it (convenience for the DMI adult or the parent does not meet the exception standard).
